Now contrast the above culturally-degenerative messages with The Eagles lyrics below that tell intelligent stories furthering America’s traditional morals and honorable values.

“Hotel California,” for instance, examines meaningless lives in Hollywood wherein lost souls are entrapped by their lusts, possessions, and above all by the media, programming people from which few escape (except by suicide).

Last thing I remember I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before
Relax,” said the night-man, “We are programmed to receive
You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.”

Or in “Get Over It” we gain Henley’s and Frey’s social commentary:

I turn on the tube and what do I see?

A whole lotta people cryin’, ‘Don’t blame me’

They point their crooked little fingers at everybody else. Spend all their time feelin’ sorry for themselves.

Victim of this, victim of that, your mama’s too thin and your daddy’s too fat.
Get over it! Get over it!

Yeah you drag it around like a ball and chain.
You wallow in the guilt, you wallow in the pain.
You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown.
Got your mind in the gutter, bringin’ everybody down.
You bitch about the present and blame it on the past.
I’d like to find your inner child and kick its little ass!
Get over it! Get over it!

All this bitchin’ and moanin’ and pitchin’ a fit
Get over it! Get over it!”

Or within hours of the 911 attacks on the World Trade Center, Henley and Frey wrote about the Hole in the World:

They say that anger is just love disappointed.
They say that love is just a state of mind.
But all this fighting over who is anointed,
Oh, how can people be so blind?
 
 
Oh, they tell me there’s a place over yonder.
Cool water running through the burning sand.
Until we learn to love one another.
We will never reach the promised land.
 
 
There’s a hole in the world tonight.
There’s a cloud of fear and sorrow.
There’s a hole in the world tonight.
Don’t let there be a hole in the world tomorrow.”
 
 
And saddened by America’s spiritual degeneration, and hypocrisy in “progress” commencing with the Carnegie and Vanderbilt families in Providence, The Eagles performed “The Last Resort”:
 
 
“She came from Providence,
the one in Rhode Island.
 
Where the old world shadows hang heavy in the air.

She packed her hopes and dreams like a refugee.
Just as her father came across the sea. She heard about a place people were smilin.’
 
 
They spoke about the red man’s way, and how they loved the land.
And they came from everywhere to the Great Divide.
Seeking a place to stand or a place to hide.
 
 
Down in the crowded bars, out for a good time,
Can’t wait to tell you all, what it’s like up there.
And they called it paradise. I don’t know why.
 Somebody laid the mountains low while the town got high.

Then the chilly winds blew down across the desert, through the canyons of the coast, to the Malibu; Where the pretty people play, hungry for power, to light their neon way and give them things to do. Some rich men came and raped the land, Nobody caught ‘em.
 

Put up a bunch of ugly boxes, and Jesus, people bought ‘em.
And they called it paradise, the place to be.
They watched the hazy sun, sinking in the sea.
You can leave it all behind and sail to Lahaina, just like the missionaries did, so many years ago.
 

They even brought a neon sign: “Jesus is coming,”
Brought the white man’s burden down, brought the white man’s reign. Who will provide the grand design?
What is yours and what is mine?
‘Cause there is no more new frontier.
We have got to make it here.

We satisfy our endless needs and justify our bloody deeds,
in the name of destiny and the name of God.

And you can see them there, on Sunday morning.
They stand up and sing about what it’s like up there.
They call it paradise, I don’t know why.
You call someplace paradise, kiss it goodbye.
